A seminar presented by John Busby Senior Research Associate in Health Economics School of Social and Community Medicine University of Bristol and CLAHRC West.

In this talk John presents data on geographic variations in potentially preventable unplanned admissions, and explores how this might be used to set commissioning and research priorities. He investigates the causes of this variation and how this, alongside other evidence, can be used to better manage provider performance and design admission avoidance schemes. Finally, John explores how benchmarking can be used to improve healthcare locally and highlights some potential pitfalls of this analysis. The talk will then be followed by a question and answer session so a great opportunity to put your questions to John.

This seminar is organised by the Avon Primary Care Research Collaborative (APCRC) and Bristol Clinical Commissioning Group.
