Online consultations may help to increase patient access to general practice while potentially reducing GP workload from face to face consultations. This study describes the mixed methods evaluation of the pilot implementation of eConsult, a web-based platform allowing patients to access advice and care via their own GP practice website, in 36 GP practices in Bristol and the surrounding area. The pilot was part of the One Care Consortium’s ambition to improve patient access to primary care funded by the Prime Minister’s Challenge Fund. It was independently evaluated by researchers from the National Institute for Health Research Collaboration for Leadership in Applied Health Research and Care West (NIHR CLAHRC West).

This seminar, brought to you by the Avon Primary Care Research Collaborative (APCRC), will be presented by Jeremy Horwood and Jon Banks, NIHR CLAHRC West, and Elly Bernard, One Care Consortium.

The seminar will uncover the number and type of patient using the online system, when they accessed it and for what reason. It will also explore the acceptability of the system to clinicians, practice staff and patients and whether the system improved the ability to manage access to primary care.

Everyone is welcome. Tea and coffee will be provided, feel free to bring your lunch with you.
