Festival of the Future City: Building a healthy city

What are the existing programmes for change to make Bristol a healthy city and how effective are they? A series of short presentations will highlight local projects and programmes of work that are creating a healthier and more environmentally sustainable future city. The speakers examine elements of change already manifesting in the city and ask why it matters, where it could lead and what purpose and values are needed to foster it.

As part of the Festival of the Future City, contributors to Healthy City Week will share a series of short presentations highlight local projects and programmes of work that are creating a healthier and more environmentally sustainable future city.

The event will be chaired by David Relph, Director of Bristol Health Partners.

Speakers

  • Joy Carey, local food systems consultant and Director of Bristol Food Network, explores Bristol’s food journey and approaches to transforming city food culture
  • Mark Drane, architect and Studio Principal with IBI Group, shares insights from his work on designing in wellbeing to new communities
  • Elaine Flint, Chief Executive of Wellspring Healthy Living Centre and Ellie Shipman, Elizabeth Blackwell Institute, talk about what has been learnt from their recent Healthy City Week Fun Palace programme, which aims to put culture and health at the heart of every community
  • Simon Roberts, Chief Executive of Centre for Sustainable Energy, discusses tackling cold homes and energy for better health
  • Robert Woolley, Chief Executive of University Hospitals Bristol NHS Foundation Trust, speaks on the topic of NHS and change

The event is a follow-on from Healthy City Week 2017 (Sat 7 – Sat 14 October), an annual programme of activities exploring well-being that doesn’t cost the earth. Healthy City Week is formed by its contributors, delivered by Bristol Green Capital Partnership and supported by Bristol Health Partners.
