Education

Education workstream leads: Sharon Parsons, Dementia Care Trainer/Occupational Therapist, North Bristol NHS Trust, and Dr Rachel Holland , Associate Specialist Psychiatrist, Bristol Dementia Wellbeing Service.

All the Bristol Health Partners organisations are involved in the workstream, with projects undertaken by various staff across Bristol and South Gloucestershire.

The local community health provider Bristol Community Health also runs dementia education events.

Projects include:

  • Dementia roadshows in South Gloucestershire
  • 'Health Matters: A University Hospitals Bristol NHS Foundation Trust educational event on dementia' held on 18 November 2013
  • Bristol Community Health dementia training for practice nurses in care homes
  • An educational event in South Gloucestershire for nurses working in care homes
  • Training for GPs in South Gloucestershire, with more planned
  • A forum for residential and nursing home staff in Bristol and South Gloucestershire, about activity and stimulation for residents
  • A programme of training for care home staff to use technology with residents, such as touch screen tablets
  • AWP memory services have been working with GP practices to undertake training about dementia
  • Six dementia study days organised by the Continuing Professional Development team at UWE
