The next Bristol Research Forum on Ageing will take place on 15th September, exploring the topic of older people’s use of technology during Covid-19. The event will look at the latest research on older people’s use of technology during Covid-19, followed by a Q&A and discussion.

The following two speakers have been announced:

1. Dr Helen Manchester, University of Bristol
Technology design for older people: assumptions and questions

Dr Helen Manchester is a Reader in Digital Inequalities and Urban Futures, University of Bristol. Helen is interested in digital exclusion, digital design, material cultures and re-imagining ‘care’. She develops methodologically innovative approaches to research in collaboration with artists, technologists, civil society organisations and policy-makers. Helen has led a number of Research Council UK funded projects, working with older people, including Tangible Memories: Community in care and Tangible Memories: Parlours of Wonder.

2. Dr Hannah Marston, Open University
Digital technologies to support older adults and services in a pandemic

Dr Hannah R. Marston is a research fellow at the Open University. She conducts interdisciplinary research and is currently leading the international, multi-centered COVID-19: Technology, Social Connections, Loneliness and Leisure Activities project. Previously Hannah led the international, multi-centered Technology In Later Life project which focused on the impact of technologies by older adults (70+ years) living in rural and urban environments. Her background is in videogames, and older adults experience of game playing activities. When possible, Hannah still continue to work in this area, with colleagues from academia and industry.
