  • 8 - 9 September 2016
  • 12:00am - 12:00am
  • £200

A two day course run by the Bath Centre for Pain Services at the Royal National Hospital for Rheumatic Disease in Bath. Please note that it is not possible to attend one day only.

Patients with chronic pain need integrated pain management that targets physical and psychological factors. Often, emotional and behavioral factors are the main barrier to progress; this training event explores the most up-to-date methods for helping patients to deal with these and to re-engage with their lives. Integrated psychology and physical approaches are advocated by the British Pain Society for patients with high pain related disability.

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) links a range of powerful techniques to a fresh conceptual model. This event is an ideal introduction to using ACT in pain management practice. Taught by expert clinicians who have years of experience in using ACT for the most complex cases, we will demonstrate clinical techniques and link them to clear clinical thinking. Most delegates will wish to experiment with some techniques, and we will provide space for personal experiential practice and exploratory clinical role play.

Aims of the course:

  • Understanding the conceptual model of ACT and how it connects to each moment of clinical practice
  • Experience of using ACT techniques on yourself – extending learning beyond intellectual understanding
  • Integrating ACT approaches into non-psychology healthcare practice
  • Opportunities to watch and question experienced clinicians using these methods
  • Space to discuss the application of these techniques to your own setting

Closing date for applications Friday 19 August 2016.
