All senior leaders working in the health and care sector today are involved in large-scale system change of one kind or another, from service and pathway improvements to delivery of Sustainability and Transformation Plans.

This year the West of England Academic Health Science Network (AHSN) annual conference will focus on what we’ve learned about transformation as a healthcare community here in the West of England, and what we might learn from others around the country.

The key questions the day will answer include:

  • With such large scale change required, how do we engage and work with all the right people?
  • How do we identify good practice, embed it and make it our own?
  • How do we evaluate what we’re doing?
  • And how do we share and spread what’s working?

The keynote speaker for the event is Bill Lucas, Director of the Centre for Real-World Learning and Professor of Learning at the University of Winchester, an authority on practical and vocational learning and has undertaken ground-breaking research into pedagogy, creativity and habit change. His 2015 research, The Habits of an Improver: Thinking about learning for improvement in health care, is one of the Health Foundation’s most downloaded publications.
