The Avon Primary Care Research Collaborative (APCRC) annual report for 2014/15 has been published. It highlights their achievements against their strategic aims, as one of the most successful research active primary care research collaboratives in England.

Highlights include:

  • Hosting seven new National Institute of Health Research funded grants, worth a total of £3.7 million. These link to national as well as local NHS priority areas, including antibiotic resistance, improving care for patients with multi-morbidities and demand for GP services
  • Receiving a Research Capability Funding (RCF) award of £818,892 which was the largest award made to a clinical commissioning group (CCG) in England
  • Assuring 100 per cent of research studies within the Clinical Research Network target of 15 days, enabling swift study set up and ensuring that local member practices, the CCG, local community providers and, in turn, patients and their carers have the opportunity to take part in high quality research
  • Supporting the local CCGs in Bristol, North Somerset and South Gloucestershire to sign up to a commitment to adopt the principles of evidence informed commissioning, and to work towards the criteria set out in the Association of Medical Research Charities (AMRC) Research Charter. This will ensure that commissioning decisions are based on the best available evidence and supported by appropriate monitoring and evaluation
