Bristol Health Partners took part in two events as part of Digital Bristol Week 2017. The week, which was organised by the BBC Academy, brought together people working in digitally creative industries across a range of sectors. We shared our work on using data better to help improve health, care and services.

Our workshop ‘Understanding Bristol’s health stories‘ explored how people are using local information to plan and deliver services and carry out health research. Chaired by David Relph, Director of Bristol Health Partners, our panel shared their stories to spark discussion:

  • What happened to the ‘Children of the 90s’ that were in care? Dr. Alison Teyhan, University of Bristol
  • Record linkage for research into effectiveness of treatments, Professor George Davey Smith, University of Bristol
  • How does our region share information for people’s care? Jocelyn Palmer, Connecting Care
  • Building a global digital exemplar, Ian Denley, System C
  • How we used data to transform care for homeless people, Dr Mike Taylor, Homeless Health Service

At the event, we got feedback on the types of health story people are interested in understanding, and explored the opportunities and challenges related to the use of data.

At the Adventures in 360 showcase we demonstrated a prototype visualisation tool that helps map the data sources in our region.

These events built on an earlier workshop we held for researchers, service planners, policy makers and patient contributors on 19 September. Nearly 100 people attended the workshop to describe their ambitions and ideas for a health data source inventory.
