Bristol Walk Fest 2022 launches with NO LIMITS#2 photographic exhibition

  • 26th April 2022

To launch this year’s Bristol Walk Fest, Active Ageing Bristol’s NO LIMITS#2 outdoor photographic exhibition will be taking place on College Green from 28 April to 25 May. The exhibition features photographs showing that age is no barrier to active living, as part of a drive to persuade older people to make bolder keep fit choices.

Using giant weatherproof frames to showcase around 35 images by Bristol-based photographer Alex Rotas, the exhibition showcases international champion athletes aged from 55 to 100+ as well as local participants engaged in sports activities across Bristol.

Organised by Active Ageing Bristol in partnership with Age UK Bristol, with sponsorship from Bristol Health Partners, Bristol Business Improvement District Team, Bristol & Weston Hospitals Charity and Clarke Willmott – the event challenges negative stereotypes around growing older presenting visual evidence of joyful and active alternatives.

Alex Rotas said:

“My pictures of elite older athletes are proof that at 60, 70, 80, 90 and above the human body is capable of a lot more than most of us think. Of course we can’t all be record-beaters and medal winners so I wanted to show images of everyday Bristol seniors demonstrating the physical, mental and social benefits we gain from any level of physical activity right through the lifespan.”

The free, open access NO LIMITS exhibition opens on College Green on Thursday 28 April and will be on view 24/7 until Wednesday 25 May.

About Bristol Walk Fest

Bristol Walk Fest, a month-long celebration of all things walking throughout our beautiful city will take place from 1 to 31 May, and features a wealth of in-person walking related events and activities, self-guided walking routes and challenges, and much more throughout the national walking month of May.

Festival director, and Bristol Health Partners’ Active Lives HIT co-director, Karen Lloyd says:

“A short, brisk daily walk has lots of health benefits, including building stamina, burning calories and strengthening the heart, and counts towards your recommended 150 minutes of weekly exercise.

“We already know people have been walking more due to lockdown and we’re excited that the Bristol Walk Fest website provides a ‘one-stop shop’ for all things walking-related in Bristol. We are showcasing the huge range of walking opportunities there are in our city, hopefully inspiring people of all ages and backgrounds to try different routes or join a walking group now that restrictions are easing.”

Free copies of the festival programme, detailing all the walks and events, are available from GP surgeries, local libraries, and community and sports centres while stocks last. Alternatively, the programme can be found on the event website: www.bristolwalkfest.com
