Common Ambition Bristol Cinema Jam to launch ‘HIV: Talk. Test. Protect'

  • 20th October 2022

To celebrate Black History Month, Common Ambition Bristol (CAB) are partnering up with DET Entertainment to host a Cinema Jam event on 26 October at the Cube cinema.

Join the CAB and DET Entertainment teams to laugh the night away with good vibes, great films and even better company. Watch HIV: Talk. Test. Protect. Find out more about CAB and what they do. Play games, chat about sexual health and finally…watch Booty Call, a 90s comedy classic.

Before you settle in for the main event, find out how CAB is working with their local community to combat stigma around HIV. Watch the premier of HIV: Talk. Test. Protect, a short film made and produced by the people of Bristol.

Join in with a panel chat about the film, the themes that come up in it and, most importantly, why Black Sexual Health Matters.

Watch the trailer for HIV: Talk. Test. Protect.

This event will take place on Wednesday 26 October.

Doors open at 6.30pm.

Film starts at 7.00pm.

‘Cinema Jam’ is one of the ways DET Entertainment brings the community together in a space to share experiences, laughter and knowledge. This event will focus on sexual health within the African and Caribbean heritage communities.

Common Ambition is a three-year project funded by the Health Foundation. It brings together people of African and Caribbean heritage and health care professionals from the Unity Sexual Health partnership (including Terrence Higgins Trust and Brook) to work on:

  • increasing HIV awareness
  • increasing HIV testing
  • decreasing HIV stigma
  • decreasing HIV late diagnosis

In June the project launched an outreach programme to address HIV stigma and increase testing among African and Caribbean heritage communities. It also launched a myth-busting website aimed at generally improving sexual health within these communities in Bristol.
