The Stroke Health Integration Team (HIT) hosted its first stroke research workshop of the year on 16 July at Bristol Robotics Laboratory.

Almost 50 researchers, health care professionals and allied health professionals representing the NHS, universities and charities in the South West came together to find out more about current research, share updates and network with others.

Stroke HIT research workstream lead Professor Nigel Harris welcomed delegates alongside Dr James Lee, who is UWE Bristol’s Pro-Vice Chancellor and Head of College: Health, Science and Society.

Presentations covered the co-design of self-management tools, using electronic health records for research, designing smart walking aids for people with cognitive and motor impairment, and creating socially assistive robots to support rehabilitation.

Delegates then got the chance to tour the Laboratory, a collaborative partnership between UWE Bristol and the University of Bristol, which is internationally recognised as a Centre of Excellence in Robotics.
