How can we better capture quality of life information from people living with cognitive impairments?

Our speaker

Katie Breheny is a Health Economist and Chartered Psychologist. Katie joined the University of Bristol in 2018 as a Research Associate in Health Economics. She is jointly based in the NIHR ARC West and Health Economics Bristol (HEB) and is currently an NIHR DEM-COMM Fellow, funded by NIHR ARC West and the Alzheimer’s Society. Her research explores the use of ICECAP capability-wellbeing measures in dementia patients.

Katie’s research aims to improve how we collect quality of life questionnaire data. This data contributes to how we measure whether a treatment or service provides value for money to the NHS or social care.

She will present her ongoing work that aims to adapt questionnaires to be easier for people living with dementia to complete. This research has involved discussions with people with dementia, informal carers and paid carers.

She will also discuss a project that she is developing. This project will aim to improve collection of proxy data, in situations when someone is unable to self-report their quality of life.

What is a Research Conversation?

Research Conversations are hosted by People in Health West of England and are informal sessions which are designed to give researchers and public contributors a chance to interact. Public contributors are encouraged to ask questions, learn about, and get involved in projects in their area.
