The link between sustainable transport and health is currently a hot topic. This webinar will explore evidence of the health benefits of active travel in a practical and accessible way, which will help in making the case for active travel schemes locally. The webinar will be given by Dr Adrian Davis, a Public Health and Transport Consultant, Vice-Chair (Science) of the Transport and Health Study Group, and Visiting Professor at the University of the West of England. There will be a 20 minute presentation followed by a Q&A session.

Places will be allocated on a first come first served basis. To join the webinar you will need a computer or mobile device with an internet connection. Access details will be provided to registered participants.

Adrian Davis has an international reputation in the interdisciplinary field of transport and health. His work focuses on better understanding the importance of health within transport planning and the need for behaviour change away from motorised to active travel. Adrian has seven years’ experience of local government, being ‘co-located’ in Bristol City Council’s transport department, where he represents Bristol’s Director of Public Health. This is a unique position in the UK. He has helped re-shape local transport policy and practice, focussing on evidence-based policies. In 2012/13 he worked with the UK government Department for Transport to review evidence on cost-effectiveness of walking and cycling interventions.

In 2015, Adrian worked with Public Health England for six months to advise on transport planning, and was awarded an honorary doctorate by the University of the West of England. Adrian is a member of the Advisory Board of PASTA, an EU project on improving health by increasing active travel. He is a founding editor of the Journal of Transport & Health. Adrian is a Vice-Chair of the Transport and Health Study Group, a CIVINET UKI member. He is also a Fellow of the UK’s Faculty of Public Health.
