Memory Research Register goes live

Avon & Wiltshire Mental Health Partnership (AWP) NHS Trust’s Research and Development team have launched the Memory Research Register (MRR). The register helps people with memory problems and their carers to take part in research.

AWP is hosting and running the register in collaboration with the West of England Academic Health Science Network (WEAHSN) and members of the Bristol Health Partners Dementia Health Integration Team (HIT).

The register is being piloted in AWP in the Bristol area, before rolling it out to South Gloucestershire, Swindon, Bath and North East Somerset, North Somerset and Wiltshire.

Although the pilot is beginning in Bristol, AWP will accept self-referrals from anyone across the Trust. Joining the register allows service users to express an interest in taking part in research and to give their permission for a member of the register team to contact them about suitable studies. People have a choice about taking part in any of the studies they are offered and can withdraw from the register at any time.

AWP’s Project Officer Ali Hodges says: “The register will enable people with memory problems and their families to be involved in high-quality research and be given the opportunities to access new therapies and treatments. It will be advertised over the coming weeks and we will be visiting local service user groups to discuss the register.”
