The Healthy and Inclusive Neighbourhood Environments Health Integration Team (SHINE HIT) has welcomed two new co-directors to its leadership team in recent months.

Professor Jane Powell is Professor of Public Health Economics and Director of the Centre for Public Health and Wellbeing at the University of the West of England (UWE Bristol). The Centre hosts People in Health West of England and leads training and capacity-building in NIHR Applied Research Collaboration (ARC) West.

Jane says:

“Healthy and inclusive environments are more important than ever and I am looking forward to broadening the base of SHINE and working with communities for change.”

Dr Sharea Ijaz is a Research Fellow in Evidence Synthesis at the University of Bristol and NIHR ARC West. Since 2021, she has been researcher-in-residence for Bristol City Council’s public health and communities team, with a remit to increase the research connections, capacity and activity in the council.

Sharea says:

“SHINE HIT is an ideal space for building locally relevant research on key wider health determinants. I hope to learn loads and encourage more people in different parts of the system to come together for this.”

The SHINE HIT would like to thank its previous co-directors Dr Adrian Davis and Dr Suzanne Audrey for their contribution to the HIT over many years. Adrian and Suzanne stepped down from their roles earlier this year.
